Our Staff

The entire staff of the Sports Academy is carefully selected and screened on the basis of their interest in children and their ability to carry out the aims and philosophy of the camp. Our administrative personnel - the Executive Director, Head Counselor, Athletic Director and Division Leaders - are mature, professional educators with many years of experience in camping and in working with children. They are committed to the idea that the desirable aspects of the traditional camp can be integrated into the specialized instructional program of a sports camp so that our campers have "the best of both worlds" at Kutsher's Sports Academy.

Owner - Executive Director

Marc White, the Executive Director of Kutsher's Sports Academy, has been involved in camping since 1975. A graduate of Denison University, Marc began his career at KSA in 1980. He played professional basketball in Europe for many years, returning each summer to KSA to work as a basketball coach. After serving as Assistant Coach at Denison, Marc became a Middle School teacher in Connecticut, and during this time began his career in the administration of Kutsher's Sports Academy. His vast experience in camping, in teaching and in working with children of all ages enables Marc to know and to understand KSA from every valuable angle.

Girl's Head Counselor - Director

Caroline White, our girls head counselor, has been a valued KSA staff member since 1984. Rising through the ranks from counselor, Caroline is talented in a number of areas and has a wealth of experience at camp, having served as the camp aquatics director as well as division leader during her tenure. Caroline and Marc have three children, Rachel, Meghan and Taylor, and all recently moved to Great Barrington, MA to be closer to the KSA grounds.

Associate Director

Irwin Schtierman has been a fixture at KSA since 1983. Irwin began his career as a camper at age 12 and has risen through the ranks over the years and spent time as both a counselor and division leader prior to becoming the Head Counselor in 1997. Irwin truly loves every aspect of camp and his enthusiasm is contagious with both campers and staff.

 

Business Manager

Stacey Oates is our Business Manager and Marketing Director, and serves in a variety of capacities for the Sports Academy and Kepler Creek Resort throughout the year.  Stacey is a former soccer and lacrosse star at nearby Housatonic Valley High School and went on to play collegiately at Virginia Wesleyan.  She enjoys all aspects of camp life and will only leave us if her newfound tennis skills eventually enable her to go on the professional circuit.
