Our Staff

The entire staff of the Sports Academy is carefully selected and screened on the basis of their interest in children and their ability to carry out the aims and philosophy of the camp. Our administrative personnel - the Executive Director, Head Counselor, Athletic Director and Division Leaders - are mature, professional educators with many years of experience in camping and in working with children. They are committed to the idea that the desirable aspects of the traditional camp can be integrated into the specialized instructional program of a sports camp so that our campers have "the best of both worlds" at Kutsher's Sports Academy.

Executive Director

Marc White, the Executive Director of Kutsher's Sports Academy, has been involved in camping since 1975. A graduate of Denison University, Marc began his career at KSA in 1980. He played professional basketball in Europe for many years, returning each summer to KSA to work as a basketball coach. After coaching at his alma mater in Ohio, Marc became an Elementary and Middle School teacher in Connecticut, and during this time served as the Assistant Director of the Sports Academy. His vast experience in camping, in teaching and in working with children of all ages, enables Marc to know and to understand KSA from every valuable angle.

Marc and Caroline White

Girl's Head Counselor

Caroline White, our girls head counselor, has been a valued KSA staff member since 1984.  Rising through the ranks from counselor, Caroline is talented in a number of areas and has a wealth of experience at camp, having served as the camp aquatics director as well as divison leader during her tenure.  Caroline and Marc have three children, Rachel, Meghan and Taylor, and reside in Connecticut during the "off-season", where Caroline teaches elementary physical education.

Boy's Head Counselor

Irwin Schtierman, our Head Counselor, has been a fixture at KSA since 1984. Irwin, who began his
career as a camper, has risen through the ranks
over the years and spent time as a counselor and division leader prior to becoming the Head Counselor in 1997. Irwin truly loves every aspect of camp and
his enthusiasm is contagious with both campers and staff.

Division Leaders

Each division in KSA is under the direction of a Division Leader. These positions, filled by experienced professional adults, are the direct supervisors of campers bunk life. They develop warm, caring relationships with the campers in their division, and work hard to make sure the "off-court" life is as exciting and rewarding as the athletics. We also have a Camp Mother, working mainly in the elementary school divisions, to help campers with issues of homesickness and to ensure that the campers are eating well, sleeping well, and "washing behind the ear."

Coaches

All of the programs at KSA are led by professional high school and college coaches, as well as past and present professional stars. Many of these coaches return to KSA year after year, with a vast majority having over 10 years of experience at KSA, giving the program and the camp stability and continuity. Coaches plan and direct each program, assisted on the courts and fields by the counselor staff
